When Paige grows up she wants to be a mommy. Thankfully she’s getting lots of practice with Rover for a little brother.

Silence around here is never a golden, unless it’s nap time. John Martin was being way too quiet so I grabbed my camera and when I turned the corner, this is what I saw.

He was having so much fun, he had oatmeal flakes caked in his eye lashes. We have temporarily “locked” the pantry with a ribbon, soon, very soon, I will be placing a Rover-proof lock on it.

Sister is all tucked in at the hospital waiting for baby to come… we’re headed that way early in the morning! Can’t wait to report back soon! If you’re reading this, Erika, don’t worry newborns aren’t quite as busy as little rovers.

When my boys were little I didn’t ever wash dishes/pots/pans etc. UNTIL it was time to use them b/c they would pull everything out of the cabinets and be so entertained in the kitchen floor. It was too much trouble to wash every time so I just shoved everything back in the cabinets and if I needed to bake cookies I’d wash the cookie sheet when it was time. Rover reminds me of those kitchen floor days. it will pass soon, but man…..he’s a cutie! Have fun with the Sister—-how exciting. Both my boys were born on Wednesdays. I’ll be praying that the sun is shining on everyone.

Seriously, that boy could do anything and I would say all is well and forgive his sweet face! BUT, oh how great it is that you ALWAYS have your camera and capture things like this!

Do you laugh first and then say no…tell him to play it up for the camera and then scold him, or just go with it all? HA!

And what I love most is that you just enjoyed the moment and let him enjoy the moment as well. Good on ya mom.

Have a wonderful time the next couple of days. Sisters are simply the best.

I am so glad you let him play and get those lovely flakes in his eyelashes! I let them do that sometimes, too- SOME times- more often if I have a camera ready!

We have a friend who is going in at midnight tonight to deliver, so I know that anticipation! Will say a special prayer for you all!

What darling pictures. Thanks for sharing. You have a great way of capturing the accompanying emotions and showcasing the personality of the little people in your world!

I love your new blog design. It is so clean and cheery. Blessings.

How adorable! I think it says alot for your mothering whan your own daughters want to follow in your footsteps.

And yes, it was good to let the little guy rove through the flakes. We all need to roll around in it sometimes.

  • Comment by amanda — September 9, 2009 @ 7:04 am

Absolutely precious!!!! My Christian adores the Cascade “pellets”…and I would be lying if I didn’t fess-up that he has “tasted” more than one…oh, my! He broke his own “rover” lock and has had a field day…my best to you and Erika and family, can’t wait to hear…on another note, I made your sashets yesterday, if you can call using a glue gun in place of a sweing machine (mine is broken!)…they turned out cute, not nearly as cute as yours but cute!

  • Comment by Hannah Fields — September 9, 2009 @ 7:08 am

How sweet that he let’s Paige wipe his face. What a sweet helper. Usually when it gets quiet here Sam is on top of the dining room table dancing circles.

A familiar picture…we found a ribbon works even better than the childproof lock that’s really not childproof!

oh how cute!! i have got to get a new camera so i can capture the indoor shots you are able to get. makena is the exact same way. i can’t wait to see her when the baby arrives. our prayers are going out for Erika and Sloane. xoxo

  • Comment by Becky — September 9, 2009 @ 11:20 am

I think you should do a post on how different it is raising a little boy vs. little girls. I only have boys, but I swear they are so much more mischevious than my nieces seem to be!

  • Comment by brandy — September 9, 2009 @ 11:35 am

love the photos of paige wiping jm’s face, so sweet!

  • Comment by Amber — September 9, 2009 @ 12:30 pm

Little boys are something else. I have a two year old and one more on the way. I wonder what the two of them will get into together. JM is too cute!!!

  • Comment by Stephanie — September 9, 2009 @ 12:42 pm

    What a sweet collection of JM photos. Too cute! And Paiger Raiger is so funny wiping his face. So sweet. It makes me hopeful that when I have more than one child one day, my world won’t come crashing down {at least, not forever :) }

  • Comment by Dianne — September 9, 2009 @ 12:45 pm

Look how clean she got his face. That is adorable! As for JM and his fun mess…I am speechless! LOL

  • Comment by Hannah — September 9, 2009 @ 1:20 pm

  • Comment by Megan DiVito — September 9, 2009 @ 1:25 pm

Paige cleaning up JM is the sweetest thing! She will be a great Mommy!! You definetly have your hands full with JM- but how do you even get mad at that sweet face?! Good luck to your sister, I will pray for a safe, speedy delivery!!!

  • Comment by Brittany — September 9, 2009 @ 1:46 pm

So cute of her cleaning him up! And yes silence is a scary thing:)

  • Comment by Rebecca — September 9, 2009 @ 2:02 pm

Darby, I love the whole post!! When Leighton is quiet, usually she is taking all (and I do mean ALL) of the baby wipes out of the container. Oh I know it could be so much worse (oatmeal :) , for example) but it makes me laugh and promise that I’ll get there faster the next time she’s being quiet. But I usually don’t! Speedy delivery and no pain wishes to Erika! We’re praying for her little family!

  • Comment by Nancy — September 9, 2009 @ 7:01 pm

I love the picture of your sweet little boy lounging in the baking products. That is awesome. Little girls are just born nurturers. I think God really designed them that way. It is a beautiful thing. I love your new website. Stunning!
