Paiger first {age 3}. And I will add: she’s not usually so expressive with her mouth, I’m certain she knew she was on camera and added a little drama for effect.

Morgan next {age 5}.

We started an Advent calendar on December 1st and to accompany our nightly Advent devotion we read from Luke 2, and asked the girls if they would memorize it {at least the first 14 verses}. By day 5 or 6, they pretty much had it down. Then we missed a few days here and there. Last Christmas {somewhere in the blog world} I saw a  young child, around the girls age recite Luke 2 and I was inspired to give it a whirl and was pleasantly surprised at their ability to memorize so quickly!

Merry Christmas!! We hope and pray that you will rejoice this Christmas because the tiny baby born long ago was the was the ultimate gift from God to us.

Psalm 119:1 “I have hidden your word in my heart”

  • Comment by Susie — December 22, 2009 @ 2:43 pm

Darby, I usually just read, but this post inspired me to comment. I can’t think of a better way to share the true message of Christmas than to see such beautiful children reciting a passage which so perfectly captures God’s expression of love for us in the form of His Son. I cried the whole way through the girls’ video…of course, I’m 4 months pregnant, so that could just be the hormones, but I suspect not. ;) Thank you so much for this post — it’s a gift all in itself.

  • Comment by Hickory — December 22, 2009 @ 2:51 pm

That right there just made my WHOLE Christmas! So often the true meaning of Christmas is lost…especially to children. You should be very proud of your devotion to god and your success in teaching his word to your children. I hope one day I can be as diligent.

    Merry Christmas!

No, I don’t know you and it’s not most likely not appropriate, but I am resisting the urge to jump in my car, drive south a few hours and kiss your sweet girls’ faces! Precious. It’s even sweeter that the words they are saying are God’s gift to us and will be with them for the rest of their lives. Merry Christmas!

Oh my word….that is so wonderful! Watching those videos has inspired me to work with my kids more and memorizing scripture. They have a Bible Memory Challenge at church where they have to memorize 1 scripture a month but I would have never thought that a 3 year old could memorize that much. I’m so impressed! Ya’ll have Merry Christmas! Thanks for sharing…how precious.

Darby, just want to say that I’m originally from Mexico and I follow your blog. As a routine (and to feel closer to home) I read the Mexican online newspapers on a daily basis. But today’s headlines broke my heart and made me feel saddened and disappointed in humanity. I lost my faith in the goodness of people and felt like there was nothing we could do against evil.

I had to take a few minutes to say a short prayer and asked God a few questions after reading such awful headlines. Shortly after I went to your blog and found a response. Seeing your children praying made me restore my trust in humanity and have faith all over again (my heart is not aching any more). THANK YOU< THANK YOU< THANK YOU so much for making my heart have faith again. Please pray for my country and the goodness in people around the world with your precious children.

May God bring peace to all of us in 2010. I love your blog it inspires me, please continue writing.

    Mariel

I was in the Dollar Store today and noticed the employee putting out Valentine goodies…..ARE YOU KIDDING ME…what kind of commercial world do we live in that we can’t even celebrate the meaning of Christmas before another so called “Holiday” begins. SO, when I saw this post, I was reminded of the good in people and just wanted to let you know that I think you are a GREAT person for telling the story of Jesus to your girls, but more importantly that you share it with the blog world. Thank GOD for people like you. Merry Christmas to you and please continue to inspire us with your postings!!!

That was the most precious thing. Thank you so much for sharing a few minutes with your sweet, and very smart, girls. Watching them does make you emotional because they are such wonderful examples of what we would all love to achieve with our own kids. Even you, as a mother. Sometimes it is hard to make time to teach a Godly lifestyle, but you seem to be doing a lovely job at it. You are such an inspiration. What a beautiful family you have. God Bless, and Merry Christmas. Safe travels.

You are a homeschoolin’ momma in the making Ms. Darby. Memory work is one of my favorite parts of teaching my kids. It is absolutely amazing what they (we) can memorize without too much pain or effort. And I didn’t start memorizing with the girls as early as little Raiger but she’s about the cutest thing EVER. My girls have watched it 3x now and made their daddy watch it too. We all had a mixture of laughter and tears. The Word is powerful and so precious from the mouth of babes. I have to beg my girls to let me put any videos on the blog these days so enjoy it while you can. What precious memories!
    love to you all,
    edie

  • Comment by Leisel — December 22, 2009 @ 9:10 pm

I am so impressed Paige and Morgan!! How sweet they are and what little sponges their minds are. Great example of Proverbs 22:7 “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” I think it applies to “she’s” as well ;o) May the name of Jesus always be sweet to them!

  • Comment by Leisel — December 22, 2009 @ 9:11 pm

PS. it was nice to hear the Scripture slowly from Paige–made me truly listen to the words that are so familar to stop and hear the truth with new details I hadn’t thought about…

  • Comment by Jessica — December 22, 2009 @ 9:12 pm

oh my word. Darby, that was the sweetest thing ever. I’m going to have Paige’s voice stuck in my head all night – love it!! :) her cute little southern accent… “BethlehAm”. I’ll have to see if Adriana can memorize Bible verses – I didn’t think she’d be old enough to yet, but Paige and Morgan did great!

My 3 children are just about the same ages as yours and I would have never thought they could memorize that much. They say children are like sponges and just absorb an abundance of knowledge at this age…..but wow!
Absolutely precious. I love that you are teaching your children the true meaning of Christmas and feeding them spiritually! And those cute southern accents- oh my goodness!!!

Hi there. Obviously, you get tons of comments, but I just had to add one more to the mix. Your blog is SO encouraging to me. I’m a young mama with three kiddos, ages 3 years, 2 years and 7 months. As I’m sure you know, life can get kinda crazy sometimes (okay, most times). I am grateful for the people AND blogs in my life that help me look at the dirty diapers, temper tantrums and dusty living room and see in it all that is beautiful and eternal. So THANK YOU…very much. And thank you to your sweet little girlies. They were encouraging too…I’m trying to memorize Psalm 119 with my 3-year-old son. :) MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Precious Darby. Your heart is just the best. Your girls did such an amazing job reciting the scripture. I had my husband come sit down with me to listen. We were both in awe. I just loved being reminded once again what this most sacred season is really all about from such sweet little voices. Thank you for providing something that makes us all just stop for a few minutes and remember what is important—- and additionally, it just never occured to me to try to get my 2 1/2 year old to actually memorize something. However, that is silly! He remembers all kinds of things. Thank you for gently nudging me to help him even more! I know you and your family will have a joyous holiday and thank you for helping share some of that with the rest of us!

Darby~ I have been enjoying your blog for a long while now. That was so absoutely precious that I had to come out with a comment. I found you through Tami’s blog. My husband and I are friends with her and Neil. Thanks so much for sharing your precious girls (and the Rover, too…he is the same age as our son) and reminding us the reason for the season!
    Merry Christmas!

So precious! Thank you & your sweet girls for giving reason to pause in midst of last minute hustle to remember the true meaning of Christmas. Merry Christmas!!

So cute and a great lesson! It’s amazing to me that they can memorize all of this. I guess little minds are like sponges! See you guys soon.

Wow. I’m going to try that next year. My 21 month-old, who still can’t walk, is apparently using all her energies toward her brain development rather than physical. She has all 4 stanzas of Joy to the World memorized and talks about all 5 candles in our Advent wreath and how “Jesus is dee wight of dee woold.” I think she’ll be able to tackle some of this memorization this time next year. And I’ll have a new flipcam (Santa’s bringing one this year) to put it on my blog!

They did a wonderful job! They are already becoming a powerful testimony! :)

    Dear Girls,
Mrs. M. is very proud of you learning God’s Word. That is WONDERFUL!!! Do you know that He smiled when He heard you telling others about His wonderful Son, Jesus. I love you both and am thankful that you are indeed hiding His Word in your hearts!!!!
    Merry Christmas!!!

  • Comment by Mandy — December 23, 2009 @ 4:26 pm

Great job Darby.. and the girls! You should be proud (I’m sure you are!) of such wonderful testament!

  • Comment by Tiffany — December 23, 2009 @ 4:27 pm

So awesome to see little ones memorizing the Word. I do a verse a week with my 3 year old and it is definitely amazing how quickly they can memorize and how long they do keep it hidden in their hearts. I always ask my girl, “Where is that verse you learned?” or “Where did you hide that verse you learned?” She will always answer “my heart” and it makes my heart happy every time. So amazing to pass on love for God and His word to our babies.

    Merry Christmas!

OK, so I don’t normally comment, but that was the most precious thing ever! I love Paiger’s sweet little voice! She sounds like a mixture of my youngest 2. Way to go Morgan! So proud of those girls and their parents. How far did JM get? heehee

Darby-I truly appreciate you and your blog. Seeing your sweet babies recite the Christmas story brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for your blogging “ministry.” You continue to inspire me.

Too cute! And I must say I am very impressed with the fact that your girls memorized all that Scripture and that you took the time to teach them. I was also glad to hear the word cloths pronounced correctly and not said clothes as so many people do. Because it definitely makes a difference and to me changes some of the meaning.
    Merry Christmas!

Dear Darby, With tears streaming down my face I am writing to you tonight. The videos are precious and priceless. I am reminded of when my daughter, at age 6, memorized Luke 2 in Kindergarten. I found your blog through your sister’s blog. I have been hooked for months! Thank you for sharing your life’s adventures. You are a daily inspiration. I wish for you and your family only the Lord’s richest blessings this holiday season.

Darby, this is absolutely one of the dearest things I have ever seen! I don’t know if you remember me, but I have known your grandmother and your parents for many years. My daughter Erin told me about this site before she even realized that it belonged to someone she once played with when she herself was about 3! She was delighted and so was I – then I saw these adorable videos of your little girls and could not stop smiling. Thank you for sharing these little joy-bringers with the rest of the world! :)
