39 In Life

weekends are good

I find such solace in the weekends! This past weekend was wonderful in so many ways.

Saturday was downright COLD. Sunday was downright WARM. That’s how the weather is where we live… and a cold Saturday will really make you appreciate a warm Sunday.

Saturday Justin’s high school baseball team {which happened to be the 1993 state champs} played his high school’s current baseball team… and the “old” men {all 5 of them} smoked the high schoolers! It was fun to watch, despite the chilly weather, and the kids loved cheering for daddy!

I didn’t see Justin play in high school, but if I were a betting woman, I’d bet that he’s just as good now {or better} than he was 16 years ago.

His parents were there too and oh my goodness do my children love their grandparents and the feelings are quite mutual. This picture {below} tickles me because it is the perfect representation of how they all feel about each other. Do you see Paige’s feet completely off the ground?

 GiGi

 The kids loved watching, especially little Rover, even though he had a hard time finding daddy on the field. {For the safety patrol readers– his face was only through the fence when there were no pitches being thrown or hit!}

He didn’t, however, have a hard time finding the girl’s Sour Skittles, nor did he have a hard time shoving them in his mouth as fast as he could.

Here are the men and their coaches {for any Raider grads who might be wondering who showed up}! I don’t know why the fact that they are holding up #1’s cracks me up but it sure does. I guess that’s what state champs do, even if it has been 16 years!

Sunday was a lot of fun too… just in a much warmer way. And I’m going to let the pictures speak for themselves. Except this… I love to watch my children imitate and try to please their father.

Oh my goodness I love this post!!! First of all, as a Raider grad, I’m all for holding up those #1s. Second, Justin, I love that your sporting the “real deal” outfit, shirt tucked in and all (and for the record I like the 3/4 pants so much more than the long ones!) Did yall go to Silver Lake?! The pictures are PERFECTION…and I’m really jealous 🙁 Could we maybe move the commune there 😉 And one more thing in this already too long COMMENT–Darby, I want to kill you for introducing me to Pirate’s Booty!!! My booty is currently holding onto an entire package.

Dearest Darby- Can I just say I love you for dressing that little Rover in all those colors? I love when parents feel confident enough to explore gender roles in children with a more neutral approach. So thank you for those yellow jumpers and pink striped hats with incredibly boyish little outfits. Too cute.

Wow, it really was a huge difference in the weather between the two days! As always, I just love all the pictures, especially the delight in the faces of your girls in the picture with their grandmother. Would you please share the settings of your camera for the picture with Rover sticking his face through the fence? It is just lovely!

Even your cold day looks divine… we’ve been bitterly & constantly buried in Ohio snow! The sand seems worlds away, how good is our God to give us such sights!

And ps… my nubby is a former HS/college baseball player, do you not just love to see them don those old baseball pants?

As a Raider grad, I LOVED seeing this post. I remember getting out of school early so we could attend all the State play-off baseball games. I know I always say it, but Justin hasn’t changed a BIT since high school. In fact, he’s 1 of the 2 people I recognized in that picture…Tim being the other one. =)

Darby, Darby,Darby! How precious can they be??? Oh, I love the one of their grandmother, and the one of Justin on the side of the picture with the little ones in the background, and of Rover yawning. You have the gift from God of seeing the details in life through the camera lense. Love these!!

We have snow predicted tomorrow–after school, and then temps in the 60’s by the end of the week! Track season starts Sat., so it’s time!!
    Hugs!

All the pictures, as always, are breathtaking! You really do have an eye through the lens of a camera, Darby.
And I can’t say enough good things about that baseball team. We had such a wonderful time cheering them on and were all so proud of them. We felt like it was a victory for all of us- even though they did all the hard work. And it looks like the old guys still have it! 🙂
We have some friends who recently asked where I grew up, etc… and the dad happened to play for one of the teams that our team beat that year. Let’s just say he’s started to cut me off in the pre-school drop off line. 😉

Darby, once again it’s a delight to read your blog. Sounds like you had a fantastic weekend! The photo of Morgan (I think) – the first ‘warm weather’ photo you posted is just breathtaking. I’ve commented this before and I’ll say it again – PLEASE consider a 2nd career in photography (I know you have a full life now, as it is, so maybe the present isn’t the right time, but maybe down the road?). 🙂 You truly have a gift and I know you would bring so many people joy by capturing precious moments in their lives on ‘film’, just as you do for us through your blog. I can never wait to see what photos you’re going to post next!

Anyways, thank you for your blog – it brings a little more sunshine to my day when I read it!

I love the dress morgan is wearing at the lake. I’m actually in the process of making one similar for my daughter. it’s a children’s corner pattern…jenni leigh https://www.childrenscornerstore.com/ccpattern4.html
It’s adorable. Hopefully I can finish it before it’s too small for her… 🙂 Is this what morgan’s wearing?
