Rover is screaming from his crib

My mind can’t think of a better title right now. Rover is in his bed screaming because he doesn’t want to be in his crib, but it’s 8:32 and all little rovers should be in their cribs at this hour.  Usually I can handle screaming children, but tonight I’m tired and trying hard to not “hear” him… I feel confident he’d stay up all night if we let him.

So it’s been a few days and quite honestly the Thanksgiving adventure wore me slam out. I’m thinking maybe it was the 22 hours that we spent in the car in 5 days.

It’s always really good to be with my family. We packed out the school house for Thanksgiving. I think our grand total was 44. The only person missing was DaddyBoy… he was held captive by his retail employer at the computer and on his Blackberry. He knows all about Black Friday,  jeggings and hoodie tees and to hear him talk about it is HILARIOUS. The first time I heard my dad say “hoodie tee” I thought I’d die. Anyway, I can’t help but think he planned his captivity… considering our family’s Griswold-ness. We pretty much have one {or two} of each character. But what family doesn’t? We even have our very own Aunt Bethany. Despite our “Griswoldness” we are a BIG happy family and proud of our looney-ness.  I love these folks a lot and hate that I only get to see them once or twice a year. Here are a few pictures from the day… I’ll let them speak for themselves…

DDOLL

Y’all, I couldn’t find Darby Doll for over a week. I bought her that cute outfit a few weeks ago, put it on her and then BAM! she disappeared.  The kids helped look, I put out an APB for her and still nothing. Well, I found her Monday {thank goodness} in the bottom of my closet. I’m not sure what she was doing in there but I know she wasn’t cleaning it. I talked to her like she was real, I asked her why she was hiding in there, didn’t she know I was looking for her. Then I took a picture with her and told her next time she pulled those tricks there’d be consequences. If you’re new to the blog, I’m sorry!

I decided to put her on display with the ONLY two Christmas decorations in my entire house.

The kids were thrilled and this is to show Emily that Rover isn’t quite as fond of clothes as you think he may be.

Now for a PSA…
Run, don’t walk, to your nearest grocery store {or in my case, Big Lots} for Peppermint Tootsie Roll Pops. Then tear into the package {after you pay} and ENJOY! Mmmm! I hid them from the kids before they had a chance to see them… theses bad boys are all mine.

When the rovers learn proper hygiene, like not leaving a spoon they’ve eaten off of in the Jif container, putting the  lid back on and putting it back in the pantry… then they can have one of mommy’s lollipops!

And before I completely CRASH….Honey Bee Tees is updated! I will continue to update the inventory in the next few days {more red LS kid’s Christmas Ride tees are coming in!!}. I just added long sleeved Bird Dogs. And I created a FACEBOOK page where you can stay up to date on inventory updates, special offers, and it is a great place to share pictures of your kids in their Honey Bee Tees!!

We also did 22 hours in a car (round trip) in a five day period to visit our daughter and her new husband, and her wonderful in-laws. Five days of cooking, and baking and eating AND of course watching “Christmas Vacation”. It was WONDERFUL. My daughter loves a house-full, as much as we do. I feel incredibly blessed. My mom was the “Aunt Bethany”….we miss her everyday.

I love seeing your little Rover running around in his diaper. My sweet peas loved hanging out in their diaper. I actually miss the diaper days. Now it’s all Abercrombie boxers and cottony lacy-trimmed things that say PINK across the butt. Btw, over Thanksgiving my Mom gave me a sewing class and so far I’ve made 4 of your dishtowel mats. I’m mighty proud of myself 🙂

As usual love reading your blog! And I love the pointer….any chance we could see a yellow lab tee? Blue long sleeve would be awesome, but I won’t be picky!! Beggers can’t be choosers…you might even see it on next years Christmas card….yea, we are a little fond of our Porter!

Your Rover should meet my Regan- she doesn’t think she ever needs to sleep either. When I saw the title of your post, I automatically thought, “yeah, I all too well know what that is like”! I haven’t seen those tootsie pops anywhere around here, but I am definitely going to be on the lookout! I love your blog, all of your posts are wonderful (and love that schoolhouse! Your parents farm looks like so much fun!)

I love the schoolhouse! What a fabulous place for family gatherings! If you like peppermint and chocolate, you must run to Target and get their Archer Farms Double Chocolate Peppermint pancake/waffle mix and a tin of their Mint Hot Chocolate Mix. It’s to die for!

Hi Darby! I LOVE your blog! It’s so weird how I feel like I know you, but you wouldn’t know me if we passed each other in Big Lots! 🙂 Rover sounds so much like my little guy. He will be 2 in February, and although he keeps his clothes on (for now!) he HATES sleeping!!! How long do you usually let him “cry it out”? He’s my first and only child so I’m still learning…He used to fall asleep within 5 minutes, but lately it’s getting longer and longer. Anyway, thanks for inspiring me and for making me laugh! DD is hilarious!

Bad Darby Doll! Good thing she wasn’t left at DaddyBoy’s, on the bottom of the pool or something really scandalous. I feel your tired pain. It feels like I’ve been cleaning dishes and doing laundry for a week straight. Christmas? I need to recover from Thanksgiving first. It was wonderful but man oh man am I tired. So glad you all are back safe and sound. Glad to see the FB page.

Love the bird dog tee! Wish I had a boy to put it on. Can you do it on another color tee? What about a honey bee tee in pink (or another girly color)? MM loves t-shirts she can wear with blue jeans and cowboy boots and I am on the hunt for cute ones that are girly (for balance with the blue jeans and cowboy boots she lives in).

I love that first picture. I want Erika’s red plaid shirt. I thought Erica was YOU in the shot with Cousin. It’s so weird to call someone by a nickname, who you’ve never met. I received my Urban Grace calendar and you were right, I LOVE it. It was good to hear your little voice today. Can you fly out here and take some really great pictures off our porch, and sip tea with me, and drink wine while our husbands play guitar…?

Hi Darby! I am a relatively new reader. I love this post title and I totally know how you feel. I found you from Erika’s blog (I am also an interior designer). But right now I stay home with my daughter (born the same day as Sloane) and have one on the way. I enjoy reading your posts and love your pictures. Photography is a passion of mine. And PS – WAR EAGLE! Wish my husband and I could get tickets for Saturday!

So glad Darby Doll was located…and that y’all had fun over the holidays! I am not glad you are tired, but I am glad I am not the only one who went home for the holiday and was worn out. We stayed for four days, with a much shorter drive but I am still WORN SLAP OUT! And oh, the laundry….and the Christmas decor, which is not up, and the mess….oh, the mess! The peanut butter jar makes me laugh!!! I get all of this on so many levels! I pray you will have a restful, peaceful, catch-up-ful weekend!!!

    Hello!
first off I just wanted to say that your Blog has been such an inspiration to me… Even to see what you value in what comes across in your blog. Love it. My husband is the director of Campus Crusade for Christ here at UT Austin and i do ministry with him… I wanted to e-mail you but i guess this will have to do because i cant seem to figure that out 🙂

I was writing because I am on the brink of starting up my own little business doing letter pressed cards and designs… from what i know of you, haha or reading about you… your values seem to be in order of the Lords callings and responsibilities in your life and i wanted your advice…. How is having your own little business on the side? Is it stressful to your marriage ever? your being a mother?… I think im just trying to think through how starting something like this could possibly open pandoras box of greed, approval and identity in doing whatever i do instead of in the Lord… You might be like “i have no idea what your talking about…” haha but i just have been thinking about it.. those things im sure will rear their head but i am just interested in if you have experienced or thought about any of those things… I respect you and ive never met you 🙂 haha Just always love a wise woman’s thoughts that has some years on me.. Sorry if this this not where im supposed to post this?!

    An encouraged reader,

    Clare

Thank you for the bird dog tee! I have been holding out on buying anything (I don’t know why) and waiting for the “perfect” shirt for MY Rover and knew that the bird dog tee was it (we have a chocolate lab–his best friend) so I snatched it up quick. Can’t wait for it to get here! Thank you for your blog. It’s always my favorite.
