Catching Up & A Blue Light Special

toomers

Hello!

War Eagle, baby! War Eagle! It was a close one, but we’ll take it! “Good game!” to all the Duck readers who came out of the woodwork! What a game, what a game! I won’t lie, I took a little nap in the beginning of the 4th quarter but Justin didn’t let me sleep long!!Β  Thank you, Kim for sending the picture above of the “winner wonderland” that Toomer’s Corner became post-game!

sink

  • I love $5 flowers that last forever and make me smile at my sink.
  • I also loved {past tense} my Starbucks cup with candy cane straw… that I DROPPED and broke and cried. But the straw {as you see} lives on.
  • My name is Darby and I cannot keep up with you rovers. Seriously, you’re killing me, in a very good way of course.
  • Thank you for your continued support of Honey Bee Tees… and for snatching up those dish mats in about 30 seconds flat! I made a quick trip to my favorite fabric shop last week and restocked for batch 2, can you tell my favorite colors?

fabric1

  • We had VISITORS from the NORTH and the SOUTH this weekend… unfortunately both are in physical therapy from what I call ” iPhone-itis”… what if they were texting each other? I love them both so much that if they insist that I take this picture down, I will!
  • On a serious note, these are two of my favorite girls on the planet… in case you’re new, one’s my cousin, the other’s my sister! And the young man swinging the paper towel roll that is on his arm like a pirate’s hook… that’s my son, Rover.
  • This weekend we… laughed, cried, shopped, ate,Β  and watched movies {BTW Dan in Real Life is an AWESOME, HILARIOUS, and REALLY GOOD movie for adults, and I’m a tough critic!}!

dinner

  • Sloane slept in Rover’s bedroom with him, but and he slept in his NEW big BOY bed! Unfortunately, she didn’t last all night and when she cried in the middle of the night, I quickly whisked her away to our roomΒ  and put her in the bed between us… which resulted in blood curdling screams so her daddy rescued her and this is how I found them Sunday morning…

  • The Sea Salt Caramels that you have asked about… I found HERE via Food Gawker. I’m not sure how I didn’t know about Food Gawker but thankfully I have these 2 lovely Auburn girls, who babysit the rovers, who kindly enlightened me about their favorite blogs over Christmas break and they both said, “Food Gawker!” I had to ‘fess up that I didn’t know about that one and now I might be wishing I had been left in the dark… you should go look! I doubled the recipe, used parchment paper, and let them “sit” over night.

  • And last but not least, a little t-shirt business…
  • My creation

    • canoeride_sweatshirt1
  • I’ve learned so much since I started this little endeavor a few months ago… one being: it’s hard to get it perfect every time, especially when we’re hand screening all these products. I use that term “we” loosely, I myself am not screening. But I am “screening” closely what I receive and these were less than perfect for 2 reasons. 1) The design is not “significant” enough for the sweatshirts… The design has been re-worked with a heavier line-weight and the entire design will be a little larger on the next batch. 2) Several of the sweat shirts have faded spots on them because of a printing mishap. If you look closely at the sweatshirt above you’ll see around the neckline that it is slightly faded, that is the extent of the damage on the ones that are damaged. The one below was the worst {and it’s for my kids so it’s not even available} but none are terrible! And all {even the 50% that are COMPLETELY PERFECT WITHOUT FLAW} are all priced below cost! So, maybe you figure your kids are going to mess them up anyway, or maybe you really want one but can’t pay $28… so these are all $10.
  • canoeride_faded

Ok, that’s all for now! You all stay warm… and thanks again for all your support!

I *so* wish I could figure out that dishmat. I love all your new fabrics too. Just my style.

The paper towel roll is classic. Before I had a boy I just didn’t understand that boys are different than girls. But, now that I have one of each, the difference is so distinct. What makes me laugh though is that is seems like all young boys are the same.

OKAY- you are clearly one popular little saleswoman! I tried to purchase one of the imperfect sweatshirts- and they are ALL alreday gone! Insane! I need to follow your business model!:) Good for you!- great weekend review BTW!

Congratulations Auburn Tigers!!! You did the SEC proud! That was a great game. I’m gonna try and get one of those dishmats this next go round. Super cute fabrics! And I can’t wait to try my hand at making the caramels. Thanks for posting the link to Food Gawker. Perfect name for a food site because that’s what I feel like when I see such yummy little goodies like your caramels. Have a great weekend!

I work in the big old corporate america apparel industry. (That incidentally may or may not have something to do with AU football…) And I feel your pain about your production issues! It’s easier to take when the imperfect ones don’t have to come out of your own pocket book. You may already do this, but you should be able to get a “charge back” from your screenprinter if the errors are their part. Or at least we can out here in big business. Just a business tip from me to you! Good luck!

  • Opalm
    January 13, 2011 at 9:40 am

I’ll say this here publically (please don’t hate me) I’m not a football watcher BUT my husband is and he watched the game and ask me to switch from my program to check the score and proceeded to remote-nap the tv contol from me. That game was so exciting that I, miss “I don’t care for football couldn’t take my eyes off the screen!!

Whew, I’m now gonna have to reconsider my non-football watching.

I’m especially glad it ends the way it does. Hi and Go Ducks! Congratulations on the Auburn win. The better team won. I’ve been reading your blog for about a year now and especially enjoy your honesty.

Hello there! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this site?
I’m getting sick and tired of WordPress because I’ve had
problems with hackers and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform.
I would be fantastic if you could point me in the
    direction of a good platform.

I’d like to thank you for the efforts you’ve put in writing this blog.
I’m hoping to check out the same high-grade blog
posts by you in the future as well. In fact, your creative writing abilities has
encouraged me to get my own website now πŸ˜‰
