I find myself at a loss for words this evening so this will be brief. Will you all please pray for families in Troy, AL who are deeply grieving the loss of precious lives? Brittany Pugh and her 15-month-old son, Shep, were killed last night in a car accident {along with the driver of another vehicle}. Please pray for her husband, Clint, who is experiencing grief I cannot fathom of losing both his wife and his son. While I didn’t know her personally, news like this still makes my heart ache and my soul long for heaven; for an eternity free of grief, pain and suffering. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families…

Into the darkness you shine out of the ashes we rise there’s no one like you none like You!
Our God is greater, our God is stronger, God you are higher than any other.
Our God is Healer, Awesome in Power, Our God! Our God!
Our God is greater, our God is stronger, God you are higher than any other.
Our God is Healer, Awesome in Power, Our God! Our God!

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Where our words fail, our Savior steps in. A friend of mine also knew this family. Words are never enough. We will never know just what to say, but John 16:33 is a good place to start.
Thank you for being the humble, creative, and inspirational blogger that you are. Yours is the first blog I ever followed, and is a great read!
Recently,You helped me see the Beauty of Mobile,AL- it’s easy to look past something that you have lived so close to for so long (now come see Fairhope-it’s a charming place!)

I just prayed for this poor father and husband that the Lord would comfort and uphold him as only He can. Only God can provide comfort in a time of such terrible loss. Darby, I have the same reaction as you do to news like this, it makes me long for eternity too – come Lord Jesus, come.

  • Comment by lauren — March 8, 2011 @ 8:47 pm

amen. there are some things that words were not designed for.. then it becomes a true heart cry. what a tragedy for that daddy… :(

  • Comment by Tasha — March 8, 2011 @ 8:54 pm

There is a quote that I will paraphrase for this young man it helped me through a tough time.

“The depth of sorrow that you can descend into and still live is exactly equal to the height of the joy that you can have.”

Allow GOD to carry you through this and on the other side of the pain there will be joy again.

May GOD keep him and send His angels to minister.

  • Comment by Ashley — March 8, 2011 @ 9:19 pm

I am from Troy, knew Clint since he was little…this is such a tragedy for our town. And the other lady killed was the driver of the other vehicle. She was the only one in her vehicle. She was from Brundidge, which is about 8 miles from Troy. Lots of families were affected by this accident. All prayers are appreciated.

  • Comment by Katie — March 8, 2011 @ 9:24 pm

Wow. Isn’t it amazing how God created us to be able to feel such emotion for people we’ve never met? Cannot imagine the pain, but have tears in my eyes and a tightness in my chest for this man. Praying…

  • Comment by Elizabeth — March 8, 2011 @ 9:24 pm

The third person killed was the driver of the other car, not a passenger. Teresa Adams leaves two children without a mother. I didn’t know Teresa but I did know Brittany. She was one of the sweetest, most caring and dedicated people on this planet. She will be missed by so many, including the students in her 3rd grade class in Barbour County. Even though her life was short in years, it was FULL of goodness. God be with the Shepard, Pugh and Adams’ families.

  • Comment by Casie — March 8, 2011 @ 9:26 pm

Prayers are being said- how aweful!

  • Comment by Katherine @ Grass Stains — March 8, 2011 @ 9:27 pm

Praying for all the families involved that God will bring the comfort that only He has to give.

  • Comment by Denise — March 8, 2011 @ 9:36 pm

lifting both families up in prayer….I cannot imagine the pain they are feeling…When we can’t see God’s hand, we have to trust His heart and I am praying that He will give them the peace they need at this time.

    this breaks me in two.
i am so sad for all these hearts.
if i could please offer a book that a very dear friend offered us with our loss – it’s called ‘a grace disguised’ by jerry sittser. he lost his wife, 2 children and mother in a car accident. one minute they were all alive and well- the next minute all gone. this book changed my heart about loss – there are no words that can help sometimes – but this book was huge for us. to walk through grief is the darkest valley yet we do have a good God who is there to hold us. we didn’t think we could ever breath again – this book helped us more than i can tell you!

Wow. Definitely praying for this poor man and their family. What a tragic loss of two beautiful, young people. I can’t imagine what they are going through right now. To see your whole world taken away from you in the blink of an eye! That is the crazy thing about death, it certainly makes you think hard about your own mortality and how lucky we are to have each precious day together on Earth. Lots of prayers going out for them right now.

I have read your blog for awhile now, and I LOVE it!! I just wanted to comment today because of the worship song that you referenced here- This song has been on my mind so often lately because of a lady in our church and her daughter- She just found out she has precancereous cells on her cervix, and she is also around 6 months pregnant with a baby girl. This song has lifted me up in my devotional time and in praying for these sweet ladies. The Lord truly is higher and stronger and I will definitely be praying for this man for comfort in his loss.

  • Comment by Jen — March 9, 2011 @ 11:23 am

I will definitely keep this young man, and his entire family, in my prayers. How very, very sad. May God rest the souls of the young wife and mother, as well as that of their son.

  • Comment by Allie — March 9, 2011 @ 11:44 am

Oh, Darby, I said a prayer for this family when I read this post last night and have continued to have them on my heart today. May the Lord lift them up and comfort them during this horrific time. I cannot even wrap my head around this. I, too, long for Heaven where there is no pain or suffering. Thank you for posting this. I will continue to pray!

  • Comment by Mary Elizabeth — March 9, 2011 @ 12:20 pm

These are the moments when absolutely nothing makes sense.
Tragedies happen all around us, and finding a reason isn’t possible.
All we have are our prayers.

Darby, obviously we don’t know each other but I keep up with your blog daily. I am Brittany Pugh’s sister-in-law and friends with Laura Renfroe. I told Laura that Brittany and I were obsessed with your blog and children. She had just emailed me to tell me to make sure I saw it on the day you posted about eating at Mossy Grove. She was amazing and is going to be missed by many. I just wanted to tell you thanks for your prayers and your post on her. It means a lot; even from those we don’t personally know.

Can not get this family off of my mind since reading this post yesterday. Such a tragedy! Here in our little community we have just suffered a tragedy as well. A young 22 year old boy was found dead by his college roomate on Monday morning. They are unsure what happened, but he died in his sleep. He leaves behind parents, three sisters, and a younger brother. His funeral is today. It is so hard to understand such loss, but we must trust that God is in control. I will continue to pray for this young father and husband!

  • Comment by Amanda — March 10, 2011 @ 9:49 pm
