Justin rolled {or is it floated} our new “vehicle” into the dock slip last Friday night just at sunset. We all hopped on for the maiden voyage, which was rather short considering it was almost dark when we boarded. As you can see Rover was holding on for dear life. Justin likes to go fast, I like to go slow… we have decide that we’ll meet somewhere in the middle, I call it “cruisin'” speed. I am not a thrill seeker. I am, however, very fond of his boat selection and so far we’ve put her to very good use.
Both Saturday and Sunday were wonderful days spent on the water. Sunday we even ventured into the Gulf. Now, as I mentioned before I am not a thrill seeker, nor am I a “swell” seeker. The water was calm but there were what they call swells… and in my opinion swells are not swell, needless to say we weren’t in the Gulf for very long.
When I first saw the boat, I thought to myself, “Sweet, two captains chairs, one for me and one for Justin!” It wasn’t long before I realized my seat was the cooler up front! The co-captain has claimed his position.
My spot’s not so bad. I get to be front and center with the girls who quickly claimed the way-front!
Saturday’s outing included a trip to Pirate’s Cove for lunch. Unbeknownst to us, they were having a mandatory fundraiser, so we all wound up with wristbands, skull and crossbones for the kids, but the adult ones were far less exciting. I’m sure all those guys are in line for more water.
Pirate’s Cove is a local hot spot on the water and I believe most of their patrons come by way of water. Four-legged creatures are not only allowed but encouraged. When we got there, I didn’t exactly know what to do, so I stopped a man who looked like he knew what he was doing to ask him how the operation worked. He responded with, “Welcome to Pirate’s Cove, no shirt, no shoes, no shit, no problems! Order your food at the bar.” So we did. And then we sat and watched people while we ate delicious and juicy cheeseburgers {Rumor even has it that Jimmy Buffet wrote “Cheeseburger in Paradise” about Pirate’s Cove.}
We also reloaded on sunscreen.
We gave JM a cup of water and a stack of napkins and he was entertained until the food arrived.
Both days we found ourselves on Robinson Island, a local island {& boat-parking spot} around the corner from our house. Justin and I chilled and the kids dug holes, caught hermit crabs and jumped off the boat.
At the end of both days we returned with completely exhausted kids {& parents}.
For those who asked, Rover’s whale cup came from TJ Maxx a couple years ago. If you’re looking for cute aluminum bottles for kids… Honey Bee Tees may have some crab, camper, bike, and bee ones soon! 🙂
This is proof that I was around last weekend.
Since I’m kinda on vacation I’m trying to take a break from dishes. I found these baskets at Ross, and DaddyBoy gave me the jumbo box of Satin Wrap. I’m not sure why– maybe it screamed “Darby” to him. It looks vintage, and he probably found it in the barn. Anyway, the combination of the satin wrap and baskets make for the easiest lunch cleanup. I googled Satin Wrap and they have fun colors, etc. Mine don’t feel like wax paper, they feel more like, hmmm, I’m not sure, but they’re more plastic-y than paper-y. I think I vowed to be done with hot dogs by the time we got here… I guess I wasn’t quite ready to give them up yet.
Now, Morgan wanted to share her new favorite snack with y’all. Apparently she picked up on this idea from a commercial she saw. They pass the test in my book, not organic or super healthy but NO artificial colors, flavors, or high fructose corn syrup. I’m not sure if you’ve browsed the kid’s yogurt section but that’s hard to come by… so here’s what we’ve been doing and guess who likes to sneak them too? Me.

And last but not least, Honey Bee Tees is fully restocked on all the summer designs. If you happened to miss out a few weeks ago now’s your chance!! And a new sweet white dress with the “funky fish” in pink has been added too! It is still in production but should ship out no later than next week! It makes a perfect pool cover up or a simple summer dress… either way, you can’t go wrong.
That sweet Raiger was dancing with a broom and being funny tonight and fell down the entire flight hardwood of stairs and landed on the tile landing at the bottom. Thankfully she came away unscathed but talk about a scare. She’s such a mess and such a silly girl! Earlier I was in here working on this post and she and Rover were playing with and talking about our deodorant. She had mine and Rover had Justin’s. They were pretending to put it on when Rover pulled the lid off and she emphatically yelled at him not to put it near his armpit because it would cause him to grow hair there.

June 10, 2011 at 8:49 amHaven’t heard that expression “way-front” in a long time…we used to have one of those endless station wagons (I had my children before visions of mini-vans had captivated middle America), the kind with the faux wood grain panels on the side…and the back of the station wagon was officially known as the way-back. It was always hot and smelled of damp socks and stale food. The way-front of the boat looks much better. And thinking of the deodorant story, my grandmother used to tell us that if we ate the crusts on our bread, we would have hair on our chest just like Daddy. I ate all those crusts so that I could look just like Daddy until I was about six and realized that chest hair would not look good on a woman.
