That little ORANGE BATHROOM is causing quite a stir this morning over at Apartment Therapy in this post. Apparently some viewers prefer the “before”… with quite an affection for the wallpaper and dramatic curtains. Perhaps, I should have offered the wallpaper & curtains to anyone willing to come and get them! Go check out the comments. I love that we live in a diversified world where everyone views life, art, and even bathrooms through different lenses; what is beautiful to some is heinous to others!
Be back soon!

May 5, 2009 at 7:27 amHey you never know… you could have put those fancy orange curtains on ebay!
My parents have a bathroom with a LIME GREEN countertop, sink, and matching toilet… you would think these previous owners were seriously on something… 🙂

May 5, 2009 at 7:37 amThere are people who liked the before better – really??
After – oh so better!
Dianne
May 5, 2009 at 7:38 amActually the before never bothered me but I LOVE the after!
Amanda
May 5, 2009 at 7:38 amWow those are very interesting comments on Apartment therapy. Who knew! But, I love the after! Great job! You are my renovating role model 🙂 I have a bathroom with pink floor and wall tile. Any suggestions???

May 5, 2009 at 7:41 amI am truly amazed so many ppl. liked the before, it looked like a horror movie set from the 70’s to me. I love your makeover and love it even more for it being so inexpensive!

May 5, 2009 at 7:47 amDarbs you are something else! Hey was that a cornice or a drape? Just curious what you did with that thing!!!

I too love that there are such different tastes in this world! Makes it easy as a designer (you can do some ugly stuff and people still like it!)

May 5, 2009 at 7:54 amJust because *others* have no sense of design… 😉
Your bathroom now is lovely! Don’t ever second guess that.

May 5, 2009 at 8:15 amSo what DID you do with the old curtains, anyway?
Christie
May 5, 2009 at 8:19 amI definitely like your after much better!
I am a new reader to your blog. It seems we have a few things in common — I also have three kids, two girls and a boy as the baby. Mine certainly keep me on my toes!

May 5, 2009 at 8:22 amWow…I can’t believe there are so many people who prefer the before! However, I can’t help but wonder if these are the same people who may be caught in tapered jeans, stirrup pants, and permed hair thinking it looks good.
Jennifer
May 5, 2009 at 8:24 amI almost never agree with the AT commenters! clearly the new baths fit you and your family’s lifestyle better and that’s what matters!
BTW, I saw some orange countertops at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show last week and thought of you!

May 5, 2009 at 9:13 amDarby, I have to say… once I had a nightmare and I was in this huge scary house and all the rooms were decorated like that. There was even a swimming pool room, which sounds cool but was quite creepy. So I have to say – the after is MUCH better!!!
Elizabeth
May 5, 2009 at 9:19 amAmanda’s comment about the stirrup pants and permed hair cracked me up.
I agree the after is much better. For me, it was that shiny wallpaper. I didn’t even know they made wallpaper like that. I showed my mom your pictures and she said my great aunt had a room in her house like that. Apparently, she hasn’t updated her house since she put it up almost 40 years ago.
I’m going to go read the comments now. This should be interesting!

May 5, 2009 at 9:29 amAMAZING, girl! And praise the LORD!!! May HE receive a ton of glory 🙂 in your transparent home and lives!
P.S. I woke up thinking about JM’s pic from yesterday’s post…that beautiful head FULL of blond hair! He’s BEAUTIFUL!! 🙂

May 5, 2009 at 10:00 amDon’t second guess yourself. The after is clearly the winner and much more your style! HA!
It must be quite flattering though that people are talking about your bathroom all over the web. Flattering and a little unsettling I guess! 🙂

May 5, 2009 at 10:06 amIt is always nice to be reminded that others don’t always see things the same way we do. However,I think that I do see things the way that you do because I love the finished bathroom and your entire home for that matter!
Great job!

May 5, 2009 at 10:23 amAs Charlie Brown says, Good Grief! You just NEVER know, about people, right?! 😉
Exciting post you got yourself there on AT!! Yippee!!!

May 5, 2009 at 10:38 amWho knew that your bathroom would cause such a stir on the internet!!! haha Doesn’t it crack you up!
I was also crackin’ up at the people who were hatin’ on your dog petting preference the other day. I have a dog, she’s a sweet dog, she lives inside with us, I feed and have her groomed regularly. But I don’t pet her much either… I leave that to Julianna and other people who want to do it.
I just think its funny that people feel the need to comment negatively on a blog that they are not required to read.
I love your blog, your bathroom, and your dog! YOU GO GIRL! 🙂

May 5, 2009 at 10:39 amhahahahaha the other comments killed me…whoa, it’s amazing to me that people could like the “before” pictures but I guess it takes all kinds, right? I LOVE the after!
erika
May 5, 2009 at 10:52 amThis is killing me. People are hilarious. It’s funny they can say they liked it better before, but I can assure you none of them would be proud to call that their bathroom. What a riot! And to think someone is drooling over the yellow bathroom is also quite scary.
Kat
May 5, 2009 at 10:56 amDarby, those comments in the Apartment Therapy post are HYSTERICAL!!! You and Erika must be laughing your heads off reading them!

May 5, 2009 at 10:56 amThe before bathroom looks like it could have been headache inducing! I can’t beleive people liked it better!

May 5, 2009 at 11:07 amI can't say I would have kept your previous bathroom either, but I guess your right- there are so many different styles & tastes. I still love the entire process, the pictures before through to the after. That's the part that is the most awesome! What a breath of fresh air it must be for you to look at the before & after and think "I did that!".

May 5, 2009 at 11:48 amDarby,
I know you’ve answered this before, but where could I find a blog header image similar to what you used. I get tired of changing out the picture to fit the season. Not really, I just don’t have the time. I think you said Flickr, but am not having much luck. You can email me at soldierswife.clark@yahoo.com. I am one of Ashley W’s Andalusia friends and enjoy your blog immensely. Thanks so much!

May 5, 2009 at 11:49 amHi Darby, this is Susie, I wrote the post about your amazing bathroom re-do over at Apartment Therapy… just wanted to say it seems to me the majority of commenters loved your new bathroom, as did I (obviously)! You did an amazing job with a challenging space on a budget, and I know that’s exactly the type of thing that most of our readers want to see. Thanks for the inspiration!
Tina

May 6, 2009 at 12:26 pmI love our diverse world, too, but am glad sanity reigns at your blog.
Your bathroom inspired me a bit with MY bathroom. I used to pine for *anything* to brighten it up, but now realize I mean anything but a phallic orange cornice. Check it out!

May 7, 2009 at 8:20 amI guess it is funny, but it seems like the article was favorable, as it should have been, and that you are proud of the fact that your bathroom is getting such attention.

May 7, 2009 at 8:30 amThere are apparently some really strange people in this world if they thought the before was preferred. Oh my gosh, there is NO comparison. I love what you did in that bathroom & can't imagine wanting to live in that before state.

May 7, 2009 at 9:15 amOh honey…. no that was 100% nightmarish… bless your heart. If you have those curtains sell them to the highest bidder! LOL

May 11, 2009 at 11:33 amThe best comment is “Jesus God… those “before” window treatments look like they were hung at the gates of hell. Is this Satan’s WC?” Those curtains and wallpaper are too much! Great renovation! Love your blog too. 🙂
