I am slow, and thankfully y’all are patient! We are enjoying our summer together as a family, entertaining guests regularly and soaking up what seems to be left of summer. My flesh is tempted to apologize for not being here more regularly but I’ve been reminded recently just how unimportant time at the computer is and how important time with my family is. Thank you for being patient with me!
If you’ve been around for a while you likely recall my requests for prayer for Montye. Last Tuesday Montye passed away. She leaves behind her precious daughters {ages 4 & 6} and husband, Chris. My heart has been heavy and sad for their family, and I have also rejoiced the Montye knew Jesus and is now completely healed and no longer suffers. I ask that you please keep their family in your prayers.
Last Tuesday when I heard the news of her passing I dug through the archives of my emails to read back through our correspondences and I want to share a few of her words with you…

July 15, 2011 at 4:53 pmAt times like this it is good to know that someone you love is in a better place … so sad for those left behind, but sweet for Montye to be out of her suffering and with the Savior! What an absolutely beautiful picture this is.

July 15, 2011 at 5:16 pmthank you for sharing… ironically i was just thinking of her the other day and could not remember whose blog I had seen her family’s story and the request for prayers on. I am happy that her suffering is over but will pray for the healing that her little family is needing.

July 15, 2011 at 5:22 pmThis saddens my heart that her children will grow up without her by their side. I pray that they always feel their mother’s love and know that she is next to them with every step they take. i’m sorry to hear about this. my mother-in-law had a 2nd biopsy done this week to check out spots on her lungs. she got good news and her children are grown, but the thought of bad news was very scary for all of us. i can’t imagine what it is like when your babies are so young. prayers go out to her family. what a beautiful woman.

July 15, 2011 at 6:58 pmThe ortstadts are family friends of ours. I went to school with her brother, and although I never met her, montye’s faith and courage has truly touched me. My heart goes out to her family as they are trying to cope. She was truly a beautiful person just as your email from her shows.

July 15, 2011 at 8:49 pmI am a grown woman with 2 small boys and a babe on the way. My dad was just diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and has undergone round 2 of chemo, with more chemo and even more radiation already scheduled. My heart aches for these small children. It hurts my whole being to know that these children will grow up with out their mother. I am sad for them. As happy as I am that God allowed me many many amazing years (and praying for many many more) with my dad, I can’t imagine my earthly life without him. God bless her family as they heal.

July 15, 2011 at 9:53 pmI am so sad to hear that these little girls must grow up without a mom. We can never know God’s plan for our lives, and it’s so hard to understand tragedy like this, but I will be praying for peace and comfort for this precious family. I’m sorry for the loss of your friend as well. May our Heavenly Father comfort anyone and everyone whose life was touched by Montye.

July 15, 2011 at 10:57 pmNo need to apologize for spending precious time with your family-I don’t blame you one, bit. Summer will be over before you know it!
What heartbreaking news for that family. I’ll add them to our prayer list. I can’t even imagine…

July 16, 2011 at 8:30 amAs I am reading this, and popped over and read some of her blog, I am utterly heartbroken.
Being a child with a loss of a parent, I can almost feel the heartbreak and saddness of her beautiful girls. I pray with every ounce of my being that they (when they are older) come to an understanding and a sense of peace. All in Gods timing. Praying for the family. My entire heart goes out to them.
ahh i need tissues now. thankyou for sharing!
Enjoy summer! Not too much longer! (i am not complaining 100* is much too hot for me)

July 16, 2011 at 9:22 amThis so makes my heart hurt!!!! I have thought of her at least once a week, and was holding hope that all would be fine. But, yes, she is in a wonderful place. A place, where she no longer is in pain and can smile upon her beautiful girls.

July 16, 2011 at 10:32 amI know we don’t no one another but I read your blog and enjoy your words of wisdom and faith. I adore you & your family and was worried about you. You hadn’t posted in awhile and I prayed that is was because you were having fun with your family–way more important than a blog post. I’m glad you’re all safe. I’m sorry to hear about your friends passing and my heart goes out to her daughters and husband.

July 16, 2011 at 12:40 pmMy heart just aches. In times like these I find myself longing for the day when death will not hold sway in this world. I am thankful for a strong and sure belief in a loving God, but in hard times, I confess that I often come to Him with more questions than answers. Thankfully, He bids me come to Him for comfort and rest no matter how I feel or how I struggle with the vagaries of life in this world. I will be praying for this precious family, and for you, her friend. We have missed you!

July 16, 2011 at 2:01 pmSo sorry to hear this news. My husband was only 32 when he died and we had two small ones, 4 and 10. I still remember it as though it was yesterday and the boys still miss him. It was 25 years ago on July 13th. Will be praying for the family. There are no answers and only God knows the days we have here. Live for today because none of us are promised our next breath. ENJOY time with your family and please don’t feel the need to apologize! Believe me, you will not regret that you didn’t blog more often instead of having a date with your hubby or spend time with the wee ones!

July 16, 2011 at 3:28 pmI just missed a couple beats of my heart. She was always so positive and upbeat in her entries .. even in the hard ones to report there was an element of peace in her writing. I never heard her talk, but it was like I could hear her voice … encouraging voice … as I read her words. I’m in disbelief! This seemed to happen too soon … very unexpected for me.
Thank you for the update. I will be in prayer for her family. May we all learn and be encouraged by her short example to us.

July 16, 2011 at 8:44 pmaching heart for her husband and girls and the rest of her family and friends, who are no doubt ever going to be the same without her presence in their lives.

July 17, 2011 at 10:15 amJust wanted to let you know that what you share on your site about your family really encourages me to love my husband and kids and really enjoy them. But more importantly, when you share about your faith, I am moved to look beyond this life. I guess I just want to let you know that your time writing on your blog doesn’t seem frivolous to me but one where you bear witness as a Christ follower.

July 17, 2011 at 3:38 pmI recently started reading your blog and was so surprised to come across your posting about Montye. Montye was a friend of mine here in Winter Park, Fl. We attended the same church and our daughters were classmates. I will remember her for her kindness, generosity, and faith. Thank you for writing about her and sharing her spirit with others.

July 18, 2011 at 7:59 pmi got this quote from her blog, which she got from a rick warren book its eye opening and beautiful:
“We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn’t going to make sense. Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you’re just coming out of one, or you’re getting ready to go into another one. The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort. God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy. We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that’s not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ-likeness.”
she has her miracle, she is fully restored. thats our comfort. thats where we can find our understanding and peace while on earth.

July 19, 2011 at 11:36 amGod is so faithful, full of lovingkindness, His mercies are new every morning, He is, and will be, what this family needs. https://deathisnotdying.com is the link to the most moving testimony of God’s grace in the life of someone trusting Him in all. If anyone goes and listens to this young mom’s talk, make sure you have tissues at hand, and time to be by yourself to absorb what you’ve just watched. Thank you Darby for the update. May the rest of the summer be rich with what you and your family need!

July 19, 2011 at 3:20 pmIt’s things like these little girls losing their momma that make it so hard to understand and trust God’s Ultimate Plan. But what comfort and joy to know that she is walking with the Lord right now! Thank you for this inspirational post.

August 21, 2011 at 9:51 pmI will pray for montyes family – such a loss but praise The Lord she knew him.
I want to say that I have read your blog (found it through my cute friend emily’s blog) and I made the icebox cake tonight with my people (3little girls and a big boy) to rave reviews. However my favorite thing on your blog is daddy boy as the squirrel. Hilarious. That is some good business and you mightneed to syndicate that action. Btw, an easy way to get that iced coffee new Orleans style is google toddy coffee. Keep up your spirit lovely and remember that you are an encourager (among other things I’m sure I would know if I were blessed to know you well). God bless you.
