C.H.A.O.S.

gathering

Do you suffer from C.H.A.O.S. {Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome*}? Fortunately, this is not a syndrome that afflicts me. Trust me there are other things that will get my blood pumping, thankfully having others over is not one of them.
Today I am preparing for a gathering that will take place in our home this evening. I am expecting anywhere from 25 people to 35 people. This excites me; there’s something about being able to open your home {ugly bathrooms and all} to others.

Here are my top 10 reasons to have people in your home:
  1. It is GOOD to do SO: “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another- and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25
  2. You will fix something fun to eat {but now is not the time to turn your guests into guinea pigs by trying a “new” recipe}
  3. You will clean your toilets & sinks.
  4. You will de-clutter your kitchen counters.
  5. You will get dressed in something fun & put on something other than your “everyday earrings”.
  6. You will put on make-up & brush your teeth.
  7. You will have coffee after dinner, which is so fun.
  8. You will more than likely laugh.
  9. You will use a serving piece that you don’t use regularly.
  10. You will enjoy all of the above and want to do it again.

*My friend, David, coined this phrase {and if he didn’t he’s the first I’ve heard use it} … {update} ok, thanks for informing me of “FLY lady” never heard of her before… apparently David didn’t coin it and perhaps she did! 🙂
My sweet friend, Allyson, gave me the beautiful turquiose drink dispenser… I think it came from Linens & Things.

Okay, this is ridiculous, but for a minute I thought your turquoise drink dispenser was a balloon being blown up. 🙂 I’m a dork.

    Have fun tonight!

I completely agree! Having parties at your home forces you [ok me] to finish those unfinished projects, scrub those baseboards and vacuum the blinds. All those crummy projects that get neglected because you’re too tuckered out from picking up the day’s toy fiesta or wiping random sticky smudges.

i needed to hear that. i tend to prefer a quiet night at home just the two of us. i’m an introvert, and i get my energy from times of solitude, which makes me come to the conclusion that large groups of people drain me. but i really need to get out of that mind set. gathering with friends can be so refreshing! and so much of it has to do with my attitude about it. so thank you!

If you check out Fly Lady, it’s a great program, but don’t get too overwhelmed! It requires a lot. More then I’m willing to undertake in a day!

Love the new blog. I totally need to add it to my google reader.

Okay, so it does feel weird reading someone’s blog who you do not know….but your blog is so precious–a friend passed it along to me a few months ago and I have just so enjoyed reading it! You are so fun and your sweet family is adorable. I appreciate your craftiness and creative ideas and mostly your joy in the Lord. Thanks so much!
Take care and PTL (love that)! 🙂

yes, i do suffer from this. i do love to entertain when we do it. but, it always seems like we are in the middle of a project and at least one area of the house, yard, etc. is a mess or torn up because of it. i do want to entertain more…especially just casual get togethers. Please be sure to post all about your evening and of course pictures! you didn’t cook for all those people alone did you or was it more of a potluck thing? have a good week!

I love having people over too!! One reason I will be a little sad when our house sells because it is perfect for entertaining. I also love the drink dispenser…I have been debating about buying one…useful or not?

Hope you had a great party.
I COMPLETELY suffer from this because we bought a fixer-upper house and then had a baby. So, it’s more fixer than upper and it hasn’t changed as much- or as quickly- as I thought it would. But my parents came for a surprise visit so that made me clean and gave me more confidence to have some peeps over this week. Thanks, Darby! You’re right!
