42 In Life

His Mercies are New Every Morning

These three have been patients in my infirmary all weekend. They all look alike and must have the same immune system too.

Thankfully “cousin” George was here to help me hold down the fort and keep the pages turned in every book we own. George is husband to my cousin, Erin, and we loved having him here all weekend! He did dishes, helped with kids, and was just a joy to have in our home!

I did manage to sneak away to the kitchen myself for a little more of this.

*side note: I love the taste of pumpkins but pre-cooked, pre-spiced… the smell is somewhat atrocious.

I was also reminded this weekend why we don’t co-sleep with Rover or any rover for that matter.

littlerover

Because they are rovers. Little man wasn’t feeling good Saturday night, really needed his mommy and would only stop crying if he was snuggled up next to me in our bed. Which might have been restful for him, but for me was quite the opposite. Every time I would doze off I would wake up in a panic and think, “is he still here, did he fall off the bed, is he about to fall of the bed?!”  I know some people sleep with their kids {to each his own} but my goodness I’m not used to that, I would have slept better on the hardwood floor with no pillow. I’m thankful that he seems to be feeling better this morning and he only visited our bed once last night!

And this morning when I walked outside to crisp fall temperatures with cup of coffee in hand the Lord met me where I was, at my back door, with the most beautiful sunrise I’ve ever seen.

It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

 thismorning

He is faithful and his mercies never fail… I pray you find encouragement in that today as we tackle a new week! Thank you, Lord Jesus for your compassions & faithfulness to us!

Oh, I’m glad they are on the mend without too much incident. Sweet little things. I’m completely the same way when one of ours is sick and needs to sleep with us. I’m sooooo beat the next day and Sam is usually camped out somewhere else in the house. Every once in a while, I forget how little sleep I get co-“sleeping” and I’ll get all sentimental and just want one in bed with us for cuddles. That’s when Sam looks at me like I’m crazed and quickly reminds me that it’s only fun for the first hour or so.

I also agree that raw pumpkin smells completely nasty. The first year we cut pumpkins our girls just sat there holding their noses! 🙂

Thanks for the encouragement. May the Lord bless you, Darby, and your precious family.

Isn’t it amazing how the Lord just meets us where we are? I find this “big reveal” to be during or in the midst of a trial (sick kids!). He is so faithful. I too can not sleep at all with my kids. They are movers and remind me of WWF wrestlers. Flipping and jabbing and almost getting me in a headlock. TORTURE!

We DID suffer a fall off the bed this weekend – Avery must’ve rolled) off her bed right onto her little face – she’s got a black eye (like Rover had last week!) I feel so guilty!

Isn’t it wonderful how the Lord sends us what we need AS we need it….not before, not after, but just AS we need it. He’s right on time, and I’m so thankful! Hope everyone is feeling better and you can get back to some fall fun. It’s fall break for me this week, and I’m going to squeeze everything I can out of it!

Hey Darby – I am a random stalker that you don’t know, but I know some of your Auburn friends. Anyway, for what it’s worth, I LOVE sleeping with my 20 month old. I rarely rarely do it b/c I don’t want her to get used to it, but recently she was sick and my husband was out of town and we have a king bed so I just set up a blockade of pillows and I was the other blockade and we slept just fine. I never thought I’d be able to do that, though!
On another note, in your post about the beach house you mentioned some chenille bedspreads that the owners had gotten from linensource.com. I am lusting after the Bella Notte cloud cord coverlets for the aformentioned daughter’s big girl room, but they are so pricey. Do you think these chenille coverlets would be a good substitute? It’s hard to tell from the picture on the website, but the pic on your blog looks good. They do have fringe on the edge and on the pillow shams in the website pic. Did your friend’s coverlets have fringe? If so did it look like you could cut it off?
Thanks! Keep the fun posts coming, your family is precious!

I never, ever, ever thought we would put our baby in our bed with us-just did not want to start that! But sweet baby girl has been sick w/ear infections and the ONLY thing that comforted her was being snuggled RIGHT up next to me in our big bed. She rested good while she kicked and flipped around, but no one else did! oh well that is what mommies are for, right?! And you are right, thankfully today is a new day and tonight is a new night for sleep so to each his own bed! Hope everyone feels much better very soon!

Now THIS is exactly what I needed! Overslept, almost missed preschool carpool for the 4 year old, a wild 2 year old in the grocery, two grouchy little ones at the dentist, and finally nap time. As you can imagine, mama hasn’t been the picture of patience today!

That verse is so true, and I am so grateful that He is faithful even when we are a mess! Reading that reminder, along with that gorgeous photo, brought happy tears to my eyes. Thank you 🙂

Hope your family is feeling better too!

Darby, I came to your blog by way of your sisters blog from a dear friend of mine(Joy) who told me about urbangrace over two months ago. I went to it last Fri., and since, have so enjoyed getting to know you and your sister. I do not know ,Yet, how she came to know of Erika’s blog, but I will.(she lived in pensacola, fl. fort walton Beach, air force years ago? not sure if the connections might be from someone there? I’m still figuring out where you live. I have been to Destin!) Anyway, there are a couple of Godincidences I wanted to share with you. My sister-in-law gave me a necklace for my bday from Sosobella. The creator/owner had a daughter in my sis-n-laws class in Rossmoor, Calif.(sis-n-law is a teacher) The necklace was stamped never stop praying.(How did you learn of Sosobella?curious) Anyway, I just recently ordered a necklace from sosobella for my friend Joy, and she is the one who intorduced me to “you girls”. I shared Christ with my friend Joy on a visit to Fort Walton Beach in 2002 when she was pregnant with her first and I was pregnant with our third & last. She is growing in her knowledge of our Lord and I just think it is a Godincident that you and Erika are believers and on your blog you share your faith so boldly, Amen!! I was happy to see that God puts just the right people in our lives at just the right time. Joy is coming to visit me Nov. 19. We have been friends since we were in kindergarten back in 1972. We are 42!! but feel 19 (well maybe act it). I hope my ramblings make sense to you. I felt moved to share the timing of it all with you and to thank you for your transparency. You are living out your faith just as we should and the best you can given the season of life you’re in. I’m just a few years ahead of you and it does not get easier (parenting)just different, always filled with blessings and challenges and God is there every step of the way!! I/we have 3 boys Graham 13, Brady 9, Landen 7. You’ve motivated me to update our family blog, thanks. Enjoy where you’re at and remember that it is just where God wants you.

Hi D, I love your blog and have posted a few times before. We have co-slept with our litte guy since he was born and we all like it. It works for us. We don’t do it every night. He is 19 months now – Oliver – and he sleeps thru the night in his crib. But the hilight of evening rest is getting him when he awakens and bringing him back into bed with us. We snuggle. Your little Rover was sick, so I can see how hard that must have been for you all! In any case, folks need to do what works best!

Thank you for posting. The Pumpkin Butter sounds great! I may have try it. I love pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread, pumpkin soup and pumpkins in general! But I’ve never tried Pumpkin Butter! And who knew about a pumpkin shortage! I knew Blueberries were in limited quantities this year, but not pumpkins! Wow!

    Thanks again!

Dear Darby, I just wanted to let you know what a blessing your blog is to me. I’ve been following your adventures for a little while now (as well as Erika’s) and you are (both) a source of encouragement and comfort for me, both as a new mom and as a believer in Christ. Every post is a testimony of your love for your family and the Lord, regardless of whether He is mentioned.

Hope your family is better soon. 🙂
