Oh my goodness, do I love Saturdays… especially chilly ones! Finally some cooler temps have come our way and we intend to spend some time outside today {not in shorts}! First, thank you for your kind words on the last post… I deliberated over that post for a LONG time, so long that I almost didn’t post it!
We’ve been busy around here this week preparing for all the fun that Halloween brings with it… making caramel apples, carving jack-o-lanterns, roasting pumpkin seeds, picking out costumes, and more. I’m so thankful that my 5 {almost 6}-year-old was very clear as to letting me know exactly what she’d like for me to do when carving her pumpkin, unfortunately I took some creative liberties and didn’t follow to a “t”.
Which resulted in her insisting to design {and draw} the next one… {if you haven’t carved yet, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers take all the permanent marker marks off when you’re done carving}
I was so thankful that the house was nice and quiet while I carved {by the way, he’s still anti-clothing, you may notice}…
I eventually got them all carved {thankfully to the children’s satisfaction} and then we lit them up, the best part {in my opinion}…
They were lit and in place just when Daddy walked in from work and we were thrilled to show him our new jack-o-lanterns!
When I was photographing the caramel apple, my assistant was right by my side, hoping and praying I’d accidentally leave it out there…
And back in the house this was going on… and what exactly was going on, I’m not sure… I will have to ask Paige if they were just tired or in trouble or maybe both.
And last but not least, the t-shirt shop is refilled with “off to the bay” and float planes in short sleeves {which are great over a long sleeved tee} and a handful of these…
It’s a light blue, long sleeve, Happy Camper tee screened in green… but I only have it in size 12. It’s perfect for tween girls… or makes a great lounge/sleep shirt for petite Mommy’s who need a reminder to be a Happy Camper.
Have a great weekend, friends!!

October 30, 2010 at 11:05 amHave you read “The Littlest Pumpkin” by R.A. Herman? It is a sweet little Halloween children’s book and reminds me of your kiddos and their Jack-o-Lanterns. We LOVE reading it over and over again! Ditto your sentiments on Saturday mornings. I was just thinking what a blessing this cooler weather is as my girls bounded into our room and snuggled under the covers with us this morning.That doesn’t always happen when the weather is warmer. It’s those little things that I cherish on days like today! Have a wonderful Halloween!

October 30, 2010 at 12:22 pmCan I ask where you got all those mermaids? My 4-year old niece loves mermaids…I recently found one for her at the dollar store, but these look like they would hold up better : ) Also, I love reading your blog…it’s cool to hear real life stuff.

October 30, 2010 at 1:48 pmRandom question. Why don’t you ever put polish on those pretty toes of yours? I don’t know why, but I could NEVER go without toenail polish, and find it fascinating when people do!!

October 30, 2010 at 8:49 pmSo many hilarious things in this post… Loved Morgan’s pumpkin illustrations, Paige’s “time-out” syncronized swimming mermaids, and JM and his au natural approach to his wardrobe are all just priceless! The pumpkins turned out fabulous!

October 30, 2010 at 8:58 pmThese pictures are adorable. My 23 month old daughter (who will not go to sleep and is being forced to read the blog with me until she tuckers out) thinks Rover is her twin brother and keeps pointing to him and shouting her brother’s name. comical since the only thing the boys have in common is the fact they are little boys! Pretty funny. She is also very excited about the pumpkins, Paige’s bow and the doll pictures. Happy Halloween!

October 30, 2010 at 9:53 pmLove your blog! You are so creative and you inspire me to be creative with my little girl. Random question. Is that a slip cover on your sofa? If so, please tell me you didn’t make it :0). I am in the market for some reasonable ones that won’t cost as much as a new sofa.
Keep up all the great posts!!

October 30, 2010 at 10:26 pmThis post was perfect! My husband and I have a somewhat similar story, we were just older when we made our love connection. Both Auburn grads that made it home. We teach in the local schools. there were 6 years between our first and second dates ~ boy did we have growing up and healing to do!!!
I enjoy your blog very much! War Eagle!!! 9 – 0 can you believe it?! Wait, I know that reason ~ we believe in Auburn and love it! {Thanks, Dr. Petrie for those words!}

October 31, 2010 at 3:16 pmLOVE this post! The diagram is hilarious! Little mermaid was always my favorite. I’m hoping my little girl will follow her mommas love. Random question from the lite up pumpkin picture….where did you get your spice rack? I just love it and I’m looking to make some room in our pantry. Thank you!

November 1, 2010 at 2:14 pmHow about that apple?!! I made some that looked and tasted divine…as long as you didn’t mind wax paper stuck to the bottom. Any hints for getting the apples to come off the paper?

November 1, 2010 at 2:48 pmToo funny!! Your kids are just beautiful! So far as the dolls….. I gotta say the “3 poor mermaids” were probably “gasping for air” since they are “sea creatures” and NOT “land creatures”!!LOL!! The other 3 chicks were probably instructing them on how “to take deep breaths and LIVE!!! LOL!! Okay….so I got caught up!!

November 2, 2010 at 2:29 pmDang! Your kids got into barbies… I loved little toy figures like that growing up and my 2 girls never had any desire for them 🙁 I never got to play barbies or dolls with them. Your blog is great and I love your kids! So beautiful!

November 2, 2010 at 9:21 pmHi Darby! I love the Jack O Lanterns! Hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween.
A couple of blogs ago you mentioned you are looking for a train table. I saw last week that Tuesday Morning has one and at a much better price than like Pottery Barn. My neighbor made his lil boys and seeing how handy your husband is, he could make it and you could paint the scene! If you feel like taking all that on!! I did see a very cute Thomas the Tank rug (5×7 i think) at Lowes yesterday for about 20$. Worth checking out! Good luck!! Janet
